Atlantis is an invitational 7s rugby club whose mission is to encourage and develop American rugby by playing in domestic and international tournaments. Within the 2023 calendar year Atlantis furthered this mission by fielding U14, U16, U18, U23, and Senior sides across the United States from as far as New York to Los Angeles.
As previously reported, over Thanksgiving weekend Atlantis put two high school girls sides into New York 7s and came away with a 7-1 record to go along with a Premier Division Cup Championship and a Club Division Bowl Championship.
That strong level of play continued over this most recent weekend as Atlantis sent Senior men’s and women’s sides to Grenada Rugby World 7s and came away with a 10-2 cumulative record, a men’s division championship, and a second place finish in the women’s division.
The women played in the opening match of the tournament and came away with a 12-7 victory over Les Blues. They followed that up with three more victories; 45-0 over Find Rugby Now, 24-5 over Caribbean Queens, and 26-7 over Rugby Quebec to finish 4-0 on Day 1 of the tournament. The men were similarly undefeated on Day 1 earning victories over Guyana (29-0), Find Rugby Now (45-10), and the Trinidad and Tobago Defense Force (26-12) to go 3-0.
The men kept things going on Day 2 with an opening 14-5 victory over Misfits to earn first place in the pool and a semifinal matchup against Barbados. The women stumbled in their final pool play match with a 7-14 defeat against Redshirts but they had done enough to earn a place in the Championship match.
The men also earned a place in their Championship match by winning their semifinal against Barbados by the score of 17-0 and in the final the men were able to bring home the Cup thanks to a 17-10 victory over Misfits. Atlantis wasn’t quite able to bring home the double as the women lost their final 0-10 against Rugby Quebec but the weekend was highly successful with two top 2 finishes.
Overall the men went 6-0 with 148 points scored and 37 allowed for a point differential of 111 while the women went 4-2 with 114 points scored and 43 allowed for a point differential of 71.
For their efforts the men were awarded The Stag Beer Winners Trophy and the women earned The Umbrellas Beach Bar Finalists Trophy.
